Holy Responsibility

An Invitation

The government has announced that it is sending out checks to most Americans as a way to help with the dislocations caused by the pandemic. For some people these checks will offer a welcome support; for some of us, however, the money is not needed. Can we find a way to spend it? Of course.

However, if you are one of those who do not actually “need” the check I would like to invite you to look at that check differently.

If your financial position makes this check unnecessary, I invite you to look at this money as a holy responsibility. Instead of going on vacation or (*ahem*) buying a new surfboard, would you prayerfully ask God to whom you should direct these funds?

You probably know a family that IS struggling, you mayknow an organization like Solidarity or Lot 318 that is working with the poor in your community—why not give it to them?

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.”—Proverbs 3:27
